baby ruth and the enola gay
baby ruth candy bars have a direct connection to the enola gay.
in the 1920s, the curtis candy company would fly a small plane over cities and drop baby ruth candy bars and packs of mint gum attached to small parachutes. when the plane came to hialeah, florida in 1927, a 12 year old boy was in the second seat tying on the parachutes and dropping the candy over the side.
that boy's name was paul warfield tibbets jr., the eventual aircraft captain of the enola gay. his mom paid a cool $1 for him to have the opportunity to drop candy.
